On Saturday 8 October, Essex Libraries are hosting a Love Your Library Day. The theme is the environment and there will be plenty of themed activities for all ages at all of our libraries open on this day.

There’ll be fun activities, crafts, and games to get involved in, as well as opportunities to learn about the environment and your local area from our partner organisations. There will also be a chance to find out more about your local library and what we do for you. It’s a day to enjoy and celebrate your local community!

To celebrate Love Your Library Day, ACL will be running a free course on climate change, History of Sustainability, at Chelmsford Library.

This course will give you an introduction to the history of sustainability that explores its origins and some of the key causes of climate change. It's suitable for anyone who is interested in gaining a better understanding of sustainability. Find more information on their website

Events like this are part of the Essex County Council agenda to level up local communities. Hosting events such as these are an amazing way to bring together the local community as well as highlight free services that benefit Essex residents.

Councillor Louise McKinlay, Deputy Leader Essex CC and Lead for Levelling Up, is a great supporter of Essex libraries and what the library service does for our communities I am passionate about our library service and believe it has a vital and important role to play in improving the lives of our residents and in helping to level up the county. Through talking to residents and partners, it is clear that my passion for libraries is shared. People see libraries as a hub for communities to come together and interact, a vital resource for helping residents improve their literacy, and a place to learn new skills.” Read more about her vision for the library service on our website.
