Essex Libraries Joins RNLI Water Safety Ambassador Scheme

Essex Libraries is proud to announce that it has joined the RNLI Water Safety Ambassador Scheme, helping to share vital water safety messages and support safer communities across Essex.

As a service at the heart of local communities, we're committed to helping you access trusted information that supports your wellbeing and safety. By joining the Ambassador Scheme, we'll be helping to raise awareness of key water safety messages and encouraging you to stay safe when enjoying Essex's coastline, rivers and lakes.

With summer bringing more opportunities to spend time near the water, understanding the risks and knowing what to do in an emergency can help save lives. Through our libraries and communication channels, we'll be sharing practical advice and guidance from the RNLI to help keep you informed.

Staying Safe Around Water

Whenever you're spending time near water, remember:

  • Always supervise children closely.
  • Be aware of the dangers of open water swimming.
  • Check local conditions before entering the water.
  • In a coastal emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
  • If you get into difficulty in the water, remember to Float to Live: tilt your head back, relax and control your breathing until you can call for help or reach safety.

We're pleased to be supporting the RNLI's important water safety work and helping to share life-saving advice with communities across Essex.
