Essex Library Service Terms and Conditions


Essex Libraries have specific terms and conditions related to a range of services we offer. These relate to areas such as library membership, acceptable use policies for computer equipment, responsibilities for room hirers, and criteria for selecting stock.  Library Membership:

•    To join Essex Libraries, you need to provide identification with your name and address, such as a driving license, bank statement, or utility bill
•    You can borrow up to 14 physical items and 10 e-books, e-audiobooks, and e-magazines
•    Suggestions for stock are welcomed, and self-service reservations are free


Computer Use:

•    Library membership and a password are required to use the library's computer equipment and internet
•    Using someone else's library card to access the internet is not permitted and will result in barring from the service
•    Free assistance is available, provided there are sufficient staff on duty


 Room Hire:

•    Hirers of library spaces must be 18 years or older
•    Public Liability Insurance (PLI) and DBS checks (for regulated activities) are required
•    Hirers are responsible for the conduct of all users and ensuring no inconvenience is caused to staff, customers, or neighbours
•    Alterations to the room or signage is not permitted

•    Commits to inclusive access for all users, including those with disabilities
•    Ensures physical access to buildings and availability of assistive technologies
•    Offers materials in accessible formats
•    Staff are trained in RNIB Sight Loss, Dementia Friends, Autism Awareness, and Health Literacy
