Babies and toddlers

Find support and ways to help your baby or toddler’s development at your local library.

Start your child’s first library membership

There is no age limit on joining the library, so you can sign up your child any time and get their first library card.

We have lots of picture books for younger readers, and board books that are specially designed for tiny hands.

Our breastfeeding policy

All our libraries welcome breastfeeding mothers. Find out more on the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing website.

Baby and Toddler Rhymetime

Our Baby and Toddler Rhymetime sessions are a chance to share rhymes and have fun with other families.

Find your local library's next Rhymetime by searching our events.

When registering your child’s birth, you will get a Bookstart Baby pack. This will help your child learn to read and develop their language skills.

If for any reason you don’t receive this pack you can request it from your local library.

Find out more at the Bookstart website

Online Rhymetime

Our libraries share Online Rhymetimes, where your child can learn new rhymes and songs.

We also have Rapid Rhymes if you want to have fun but are short on time.
