Chelmsford Library Improvements

Thu 29/01/2026

From Monday, 16 February to Monday, 9 March, the rear area of the library (including the desk and shelving) will be temporarily closed as part of a major improvement project designed to create a brighter, more inspiring space for everyone.
This transformation is part of our commitment to continually enhance your library experience, making Chelmsford Library a place that feels welcoming, uplifting and fit for the future.

A New Mindfulness and Study Zone

The back of the library will soon become a completely redesigned Mindfulness Zone and Study Zone- a calm and inviting space perfect for focusing, relaxing and recharging.

Visitors can look forward to:
•    New study pods for quieter, more private working
•    New white Benching around the window area.
•    Comfortable new sofas
•    Colourful plants to create a calming atmosphere
•    Modern furniture throughout
•    Repainted walls and refreshed colour palette
•    Brand new Vinyl flooring for a clean fresh look

Think of it as Chelmsford Library giving the back of its building a warm, revitalising hug-bringing comfort, colour and calm into a beautiful new breakout area.

What to Expect During the Works

We want to make sure your visit remains pleasant throughout the improvement period.

To minimise disruption:
•    Any noisy works will take place outside library opening hours
•    Covering will be up from floor to ceiling, ensuring no dust residue or lingering smells
•    Access to some non fiction books may be limited. If you need a specific item from some of our non fiction collection, please speak to a staff member and they will be happy to help locate or request books for you.

Looking Ahead

We can’t wait for you to see the refreshed space once the work is complete. These improvements represent our ongoing investment in making Chelmsford Library a vibrant, modern and comfortable destination for study, creativity and wellbeing.
Thank you for your patience while we make these exciting upgrades.
