Black History Month
Thu 10/Oct/24
This October, we’re celebrating Black History Month at Essex Libraries!
Join us this October as Essex Library Service proudly celebrates Black History Month 2024 with the inspiring theme, “Reclaiming Narratives.” This theme invites everyone to shine a spotlight on the untold stories, the unsung heroes, and the everyday individuals who have made an indelible impact on our communities.
Reclaiming Narratives is about giving voice to those whose contributions have often been overlooked or forgotten. It’s a call to recognize and honor the rich tapestry of experiences and achievements that have shaped our world. Throughout the month, we will be highlighting fantastic books by Black authors that delve into Black history, culture, and the myriad of stories that deserve to be told.
Our library shelves will be brimming with powerful narratives that celebrate the resilience, creativity, and strength of Black individuals. From historical accounts to contemporary fiction, these books offer a window into the diverse experiences and perspectives that enrich our understanding of history and humanity.
Whether you’re looking to discover new authors or revisit classic works, there’s something for everyone. Stay tuned to our social media channels for book recommendations. You can also check out Borrow Box Black History month booklist.
Let’s come together to celebrate Black History Month by reclaiming and honouring the narratives that have shaped our past and continue to influence our future.
