Welcome to Manningtree Library
About the library
This is Manningtree library.
We have a front entrance as well as a back entrance.
The back entrance can be used for wheelchair/disability access.
When you arrive, you will walk through a lobby and then into the library.
These are the self-service machines.
You can use them to borrow or return books.
They are right in front of me when you enter the library as well as another one behind it.
You can also ask someone who works at the library for help.
Everyone who works at the library wears a lanyard with their name.
Library staff are often at the ‘hello’ desk but can also be in other parts of the library.
You will know who they are because they will be wearing a lanyard with a name badge.
Our childrens area where you can get books from is located towards the back of the library.
It’s near the ‘hello’ desk if you need help.
On the shelves, you can find story books and non-fiction or ‘fact’ books.
There are books for learner readers.
There are also lots of Picture books and board books too.
The library is often quiet but sometimes it can be noisy!
It can be noisy if the library is holding an event.
If it’s too noisy, the library staff can help you find somewhere quieter.
The Literacy area next to the main entrance of the library is usually one of the quietest places in the library.
You can sit here on the comfy sofa.
Joining the library
You can ask someone at the ‘hello’ desk how to become a member of the library.
If there is no one at the desk, you don’t need to worry because someone will come along soon to help me if you wait there.
You can use the chair to wait if you are more comfortable sitting.
The library staff will ask you to tell them your name, address and date of birth and then they can give you a library card.
You will know if someone works in the library because they will be wearing a lanyard with a name badge.
You can ask them to show you where things are.
Visiting the library
When you have found a book to take home, you need to use the RFID machines to borrow it.
They are near the entrance.
The staff can show you how to borrow the book, and tell you when you need to bring it back to the library.
They can also show you how to return your book when you have read it.
The library also has some computers.
You can log on with your library card to use them.
If you can’t find what you want in the library, you might be able to order it from another library.
You can ask the staff to show you how to search the library catalogue and order books.
When you have finished, you will leave the library.
