Wickford Library is moving!

08 November 2021

From December, Wickford residents will have the benefit of a modern, vibrant library closer to the centre of town. The existing branch is relocating to the Willows Shopping Centre. Customers can look forward to a colourful children’s library complete with some new sensory equipment, baby change facilities and an accessible toilet. The new layout will include spaces for people to sit, study, work or meet with friends. It will also have the flexibility to allow a variety of events to take place.

To complement the library services, Citizens Advice will be providing a Video Access Advice Point, linking to trained volunteers at their Basildon branch.

The existing site will be redeveloped by London & Cambridge Properties as a residential apartment block with 65 flats. This means that the new library comes at no additional cost to the taxpayer.

To allow the move to take place, Wickford Library will be closed from Wednesday 24 November 2021, reopening in The Willows on Wednesday 8 December. On Saturday 11 December fun activities are being planned to mark the official opening.

Suggested alternative libraries during the closure period are Billericay, Laindon and Fryerns.

All items now being issued from Wickford Library are having their loan periods extended to 4 January 2022. Items currently on loan from there which are renewed will also be due back on 4 January.

Wickford Library has been temporarily removed as an available pick-up location for holds. It will become available once again a week prior to re-opening. If you wish to reserve a library item for collection between now and 8 December, please specify another library.
