22 March 2021

Essex Libraries are looking for volunteers aged 14 or over to help children develop their enjoyment of reading through Wild World Heroes, the Summer Reading Challenge for 2021.

We’re expecting that thousands of children across the county will once again come to the library to take part in a fun reading activity during the summer holidays.  Their challenge will be to read six books - their reward will be stickers and a medal.

Wild World Heroes will run from Saturday 10 July to Tuesday 31 August 2021.

As a volunteer you’re likely to be helping library staff to:

  • Join children to the Summer Reading Challenge
  • Talk to children (mainly aged 4 to 11) about their books
  • Hand out stickers and rewards.

If you can’t work in a library, we’ll think of other ways you can help. Either way, you’ll have fun and gain new skills - and it’s great for your CV!

For more information please see the Role Description. Watch some of our 2019 volunteers talking about their experience.

Applications are open until Sunday 13 June and the process is quick and easy. So – pack your bags and head off with us for Wilderville this summer!
