Users of Prettygate Library can now buy stamps, collect their pensions, pay utility bills and carry out other Post Office transactions. These things can all be done at a temporary counter, staffed by the Post Office, which has been set up in the library.
There will be no impact on the level of service provided to library customers. Library opening hours are unaffected by the new arrangement, which will involve no reduction in the stock of books or other items. However, users will have the convenience of taking advantage of the library and Post Office offers under one roof.
As with other public indoor settings, to ensure that social distancing measures can be adhered to there are maximum numbers that can be allowed into the library at any one time. We are not anticipating that these numbers will be exceeded, and will continue to manage this to make sure customers can continue to access both services easily and safely.
The move follows the closure of the newsagent’s shop opposite, which previously housed the Post Office. It is in line with the ambition in the Essex Future Library Services Strategy 2019-2024, to co-locate with community-based services. The arrangement at Prettygate will be reviewed later in the year.
