Following careful consideration and Government guidance on Coronavirusall Essex libraries and mobile libraries are closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will let you know as soon as normal service resumes.

All loans will be extended, overdue charges will be automatically waived and reservations suspended.

With our Contact Centre facing unprecedented demand please do not call to renew your items - they will be automatically renewed until 3 weeks after the libraries re-open.

Please keep hold of your library items until the library re-opens – do not use book drops or letterboxes to return items as the buildings are closed.

We are making arrangements to ensure people can attend appointments with Registrars who are currently based in some of our libraries.

In this time, we are working to enhance our digital service for people to continue using the library service. Our eLibrary is online 24/7 with thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks, eComics, eMagazines and eNewspapers available through Borrowbox, RBdigital and PressReader.

We are buying more titles for our eLibrary to give you more choice and working with our suppliers to enable new customers joining online to be able to access these services quickly and without needing to collect a library card from a library.  New online members can already use RBdigital and Borrowbox with their online membership number.

So, if you’re stuck at home download the apps on your own device, sign in with your library card number and start reading today!

We also have a range of online learning and reference resources available to use from home. Find out more.
