10 December 2021

Calling all 4 – 11 year olds! We would love you to create a piece of artwork inspired by the Winter Reading Challenge.

The artwork can feature characters from the Winter Reading Challenge or be an original creation. If you haven’t signed up to the Winter Reading Challenge yet, why not sign up on your next visit to your local library.

The competition is open to all 4 – 11 year olds in two age categories

  • Ages 4 – 7
  • Ages 8 – 11

A semi-finalist will be selected for each library and, from those, 8 finalists will be chosen.  The winners, one in each age group, will then be chosen by acclaimed children’s author and illustrator Nick Butterworth.  All finalists will receive some art and craft supplies and the winners will receive a £20 book token. All finalists and semi-finalists will receive a certificate.

Artwork should be handed in to your local library by the closing date – 5 February 2022.

 Please make sure:

  • Artwork is 2D (by this we mean it should be flat)
  • Entries should be handed in at your local library. An entry form should be completed at that time. The form will ask for the following information.
    • Child’s name
    • Child’s age
    • Parent or carers contact telephone number
  • The child’s name (only) should also be written on the back of the piece of their artwork
  • Size should be A4
  • Entrants can use a range of materials and techniques from the following list: drawing (e.g. pencil, pen, crayon, pastel, etc.), painting, printmaking, collage and montage (photography can be integrated into the piece but we will not accept a standalone photographic entry).
