Changes in library membership policy - how they affect you

17-year-olds will no longer have to pay overdue charges for items they borrow.

From today (14 November), adult membership of the library starts at the age of 18. The young adult card extends to the age of 17. This brings our policy into line with the compulsory education leaving age. By removing overdue charges from anyone under 18, it supports our levelling up agenda and bolsters our commitment to the Essex Year of Reading.

The change doesn't affect what people can borrow. As before, 17-year-olds can borrow anything from our libraries, except DVDs with an "18" certificate.
