5,4,3,2,1 …. We have lift off! Essex Libraries will be blasting off with a cosmic launch of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, Space Chase, on Saturday 20 July as part of Space Day at Cressing Temple Barns. Space Day is a galactic day of events to celebrate the first moon landing and includes astronomy societies, planetarium and large outdoor cinema screenings and lots more. Booking required.
On the day, your children will be able to join Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. There’ll be fun story sessions and stellar space crafts including launching rockets, flik flak aliens and space cadet hats.
Our fantastic mobile library will also be there along with the Inclusive Communications Essex (ICE) team who will have lots of interactive resources for children and families to enjoy.
It’s going to be an amazing day of celebration! Make sure you have the date in your diaries for this fun-filled event for all the family.
The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays and you can sign up at your local library. Children read any book of their choice and collect stickers (including stinky ones!). Read six library books and they will be presented with a medal and certificate on completion.
Space Chase runs in all Essex libraries from Saturday 20 July to Monday 2 September and all mobile libraries from Saturday 29 June.
