What are class visits to libraries all about?

Essex Libraries offer a wide range of class visit for Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, 2 and 3.

The workshops are designed to support curriculum objectives and support class topics and project work by helping children practice key skills in speaking and listening, information and research skills and evaluating texts.

Each class visit workshop lasts approximately one hour. If children bring their library tickets they can also borrow books during the visit. The class visit workshops are all structured in a similar way:

An interactive session talking about the library.

A session involving discussion, questions and answers and sometimes whole group activities where the topic of the workshop is introduced.

Suitable for the age group of the class. Some activities will require children to work individually, some in pairs and some in small groups.

The group comes back together to talk about what they have learnt and what they enjoyed about the visit.

Schools can also arrange regular visits to the library for children to change their library books.
