The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) Children’s Plus Survey, carried out last year, seeks children’s opinions, feelings and feedback about their library service.

And the results from more than 8,300 children and young people in Essex reveal their overall satisfaction with their local library and its main purpose – the wide choice of books to read or share for pleasure.

The survey findings included:

  • On a score from one to ten, 80% of children gave libraries 8/10 or above
  • Parents with children younger than seven gave libraries an average child friendly score of 9/10 for the children’s area, seating, choice of books and displays.

Essex Libraries are now looking at the results in more detail to see what else children want from their library service and how Essex Libraries can meet their needs in an ever changing environment.
