Libraries across the county are hosting a variety of events under the banner of this year’s Fun Palaces weekend, on 7 and 8 October. Fun Palaces aim to bring culture to the heart of the community through art and science events delivered by, for and with local people.
Tendring area libraries are becoming international travel destinations, with Clacton celebrating the USA, Manningtree taking you on a tour of Spain, and Holland going Dutch with events inspired by the Netherlands. Discover the science and art of the four elements, Earth, Air, Water and Fire at Witham or join the circus at Stanway, with juggling, balloon animals and magic workshops. Colchester Library is opening its doors to a wealth of creative talent, with residents running workshops on writing, singing and science.
Chelmsford Library will be travelling back in time to the Regency period, with a celebration of the life and times of Jane Austen. Activities will include crafts, singing groups, carpet bowls, indoor croquet, a vintage bicycle exhibition and a tea party. Dig out your finest empire line dress, or linen shirt, and join the frivolities!
Visit our events page for information about other libraries hosting activities over the Fun Palace weekend. There’s something for everyone, and it’s all completely free!
