Work will start at Chelmsford Library on 2 January for a makeover of the children’s zone into a Family Hub and Library.
The revamp has been made possible thanks to a £145,586 grant from Arts Council England, plus a further £171,000 from Chelmsford City Council’s Chelmsford Infrastructure Levy Fund. The new hub will bring together library staff, healthcare professionals, family support workers and volunteers to create a one-stop shop for free family services. Activities planned include our award-winning Baby and Toddler Rhymetimes, friendship and toddler groups, play and learn sessions, sensory play, breastfeeding support drop-ins, health advice, and other children’s literacy and learning services.
The current children’s zone on the ground floor will relocate to the first floor of the library over Christmas to allow work to begin with a grand opening planned for completion of the work in March.

The Chelmsford Family Hub is part of the new Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service which Barnardo’s are providing for Essex County Council in partnership with Virgin Care. We are working with our partners to transform the way families receive care and support.
