All Essex libraries have books to support parents and carers dealing with those challenging issues associated with bringing up children.
We have a wide range of booklists on topics such as autism, bereavement, new experiences, potty training, tantrums and understanding your teenager.
Starting School Bags
These bags contain four specially chosen stories and a survival guide for parents to help make your child’s transition from pre-school to primary school stress-free and fun.
Reserve one today, or see our video below to find out more.
Autism friendly libraries
To help support people with autism we have produced a social story for visiting Chelmsford Library and one for taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge. Social stories can help reduce anxiety for people with autism, by explaining what will happen when they go somewhere new. Essex Libraries are part of the national Autism Friendly Libraries programme.
Sensory story boxes
Each box contains various props to help bring a story to life and create a multi-sensory experience. Sensory story boxes are available for anyone to borrow via the library catalogue. They were created by Inclusive Communication Essex (ICE).
Inclusive Communication Essex (ICE)
This is a service that supports people with a learning disability. ICE has a range of communication equipment you can borrow via Essex Libraries – all you need is an ICE library card. Request one at your library if you are someone who has a learning disability, or are a parent, carer, or professional supporting someone with a learning disability.
