Books for visually impaired children and young adults

We have a wide range of options for visually impaired children and teenagers. 

All books, e-books and e-audio books are free to borrow, and if your child is registered blind or visually impaired you can apply for an Access library card, which allows you to borrow CD audio books free of charge. Ask at your local library for details.

Large print books

All large print books have a 16-point font size.

Collections are kept at selected libraries, but any book can be reserved and sent to your nearest Essex library for collection. Search the catalogue or browse these large print reading lists:

We offer hundreds of free titles that can be read on e-readers.

Giant print and braille

We have picture books in giant print (75-point font size) and braille.

ClearVision

ClearVision books combine normal print and braille. We have a mixture of titles for younger and older children.

RNIB free talking book service

The RNIB offer a free talking book service to people who have an impairment that prevents, or limits them from reading standard print. This service includes books for children and young people.
